NLA hosts 20/20 Softball Cricket competition

Twenty -four of the top softball teams in the land are licking their lips as they go after the first prize of $3500 in the National Lotteries Authority National Softball Cricket competition.

The 20/20 competition bowls off tonight at the Victoria Park under floodlights. An opening ceremony is planned for 6:30 p.m., when competing teams will participate in the March Past and hear addresses from sports officials as well as from the organizing committee.{{more}}

Thereafter it will be the serious stuff as Attackers meet Nah Fren Dem, followed by Kingstown Hill United against East Bank as the competition begins in earnest.

Technical Director of the tournament Stanley Hinds said that they are trying to make the event a family affair with added entertainment and competitions for spectators.

Matches are scheduled nightly except Mondays and Thursdays. Three matches will be played on Fridays and Sundays. Four matches will be played on Saturdays, while Tuesdays and Wednesdays will have double headers. The competition has national spread with teams as far north as Spring Village and from Canouan in the south.

Christ Warriors, Pine Hill Nice Radio Clinchers, Kingstown Hill, Digicel East Bank, RLP Zenga and Smashers compete in Group A. Group B has Green Hill strikers, NCB Financiers, RSVG Police, Derrick Construction, South Rivers and Rivals seeking qualification to the next phase. Sea Operations Nah Fren Dem, North Stars, Simple Boys, Attackers, Ajuba Stars, and Rocksdale are in Group C, with Fair Hall Falcons, Vinlec Power Stars, Dr. Thomas Injectors, Street Fighters, Hill View and Panthers are in Group D. Second place gets $2500 and third $1500.

Apart from the attractive cash awards, a national team will be selected at the completion of the competition which is timed for closure in March.
