Youths take the spotlight

Three youth players were named among the Five Cricketers of the Year.

They are Lauron Francois, Darnley Grant and Donwell Hector. The trio, all attending school excelled at the local competitions and the regional Under-19 level.

Francois captained the Windwards team and scored 324 runs in four matches.{{more}}

Grant, 17 is the son of former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies A team opener Darnley Joseph. Grant, A student of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia is a left arm fast bowler and also represented the Windwards.

Like the other two, Hector gained selection on the sub-regional team and scored a century against Trinidad and Tobago. An all rounder in the making, Hector led the Mountain View Academy to their first school title when that institution copped the United Insurance Secondary Schools’ cricket competition.

The 18-year-old Vincom Numberz player in the premier division of the local competition, Hector had a reasonable season in his first year in the top flight.

Completing the five are Deighton Butler and Rommel Currency. Butler is on duty for the Windwards in the regional Carib Beer Series. Currency is pursuing studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus Barbados.
