Four-year development plan for local federation

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation has announced a four year development plan which is expected to bring local football on par with other countries in the region.

Federation president Major St. Claire Leacock made this disclosure on Wednesday as the federation held its first press conference of the year at the federation’s office.

Leacock said that that the FIFA approved plan, called the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Long Term Development plan 2007-2010 will focus on a number of issues including national administration, technical aspects, a championship and competition organization and marketing.{{more}}

The plan also includes strategies for women’s football, refereeing, coaching and sports medicine.

Part of the plan includes the reduction of the premier division from 16 to ten teams, and a possible split in the first division.

The president also announced that the federation will sometime this year commence the building of their own “football house” at upper Kingstown. This building will facilitate a gym, overnight sleeping facilities as well as conference and rental areas.

Sitting with the technical staff from the Digicel Gold Cup finals beside him, Leacock expressed is disappointment with the national team’s poor performance at the finals, but thanked the retiring members of the team for their contribution to the sport.

He also threw his support behind the technical staff, especially technical Director Zoran Vranes who he said has his confidence and most likely the support of the rest of the federation.

Vranes did not indicate whether he would be staying with the team or moving on.
