Vincy Heat out cold

This country’s national football team Vincy Heat returned home to a lukewarm reception, following a disappointing performance in the 2006-2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup in Trinidad.

The team won only one of its three first round matches, beating Guyana two nil, before going under three nil to Cuba and one nil to Guadeloupe at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium.{{more}}

Team captain Ezra Hendrickson expressed his disappointment in his team’s performance, saying that he had hoped that his team would have been in the final four but suffered a big let down after their loss to Cuba.

Hendrickson said he thought the team played well overall and they should have done better considering their international experience.

Manager of the team Roxell John also expressed disappointment with the team’s performance, saying the outing suffered from a number of technical and tactical errors.

John did not elaborate on his statement, but hinted that the local football federation needs to change its position where the coach is given total authority as regards tactical and technical decision making.

Technical Director Zoran Vranes did not return home with the team. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Vranes has signed a new contract with a Trinidad and Tobago club, but up to press time this could not be confirmed despite calls to the local football federation.

Focus will now turn to the under 23 team, which is soon to begin preparations for the Olympic qualifiers.
