Progressive youths win five-a-side competition

New comers, Progressive Youths emerged champions of the 2006 PESCO 5-a-side league football competition, following a 3-1 win over defending champions Roll Deep on penalty kicks at the Dubois hard court on Sunday.

The game ended nil, nil at regulation time.

The knockout segment of the competition will now be played tomorrow at 3pm at the Dubois hard court.{{more}}

In the PESCO 5-aside cricket competition on Sunday, Progressive Youths, Roll Deep and Bank Boys were in winners’ row also at the Dubois hard court.

Progressive Youths defeated Mad Strikers by 4 wickets. Batting first, Mad Strikers made 45, Lezroy Peters 23 out of his team’s total. Progressive Youths replied with 47 for one.

Ashley Frederick made 17 and Kristen Cudjoe hit 10.

In the other game Roll Deep had a 17 run win over Fireside.

Batting first, Roll Deep made 59, the highest score so far in the competition, with Philmore Williams hitting 18 and Simon Sobers 16. Fireside, which is leading the points standings, reached 42, with Cornelius Edwards 13 and Esworth Robinson 11.

The final game for the day saw Bank Boys beating Roll Deep by 3 wickets.

Scores, Roll Deep 38, Ricky Timm made 16 and Fabian George 11.

Bank boys in reply completed the score on 42. Winston Bascombe top scored with 25.

The cricket competition continues this weekend.
