Equal honours among top performers

Honours were equal among the top performers in the just concluded C K Greaves/ Metrocint Insurance Christmas Junior Tennis Championships, which ended last Saturday night at the picturesque National Tennis Center at Villa.

Sharing the spotlight were Halimah Michael, Shane Huggins and Michelle Gun Munro who had two titles each.{{more}}

Michael won the Girls Under-12 and Under 14 singles titles, while Gun Munro secured the Under-18 singles.

The petite Gun Munro teamed up with Sherry Ann John to win the Under-14 doubles. Huggins added the Boys Under-16 singles title to his trophy collection. He also won the Boys Under -18 singles.

Nicotelli Providence won the Boys Under-14 singles, with Johnathan Perry doing so in the Under-12 category.

The Boys Under-10 singles saw Anton Lewis triumphing and Paige Veira capturing the girls crown among the Under 10’s.

The duo of Fabrece George and Damien Taylor was too good for their opponents as they blew away the field to take the Boys’ Under -14 doubles glory.

Severely hampered by the adverse weather in December the championship took Christmas break, resulting in a shortened version with the organisers having to shelf some of the titles.

And the weather followed the championship to the end making an appearance center court last Saturday evening. This prevented the normal speeches that accompany tennis closing ceremonies.
