The two were recognised for their contribution to sports in St Vincent and the Grenadines at a dinner held at Murray Heights last week Thursday night.{{more}}

Bascombe’s recognition was the annual award from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), while Daniel received his award from the NOC.

Both have defied the odds in their own respect.

Wheelchair-bound Bascombe has been at the helm of the Marriaqua Sports Association (MSA), since 1998 (with the exception of 2004). Through his perseverance, the MSA administers one of the largest softball competitions in the country, as well as one of the better patronised community netball competitions.

Bascombe also served as an executive member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation from 1999 to 2001.

Daniel has established himself as a daring walker, undertaking feats that stretch the human capacity. Last September, he walked around Emancipation Park in Jamaica for seven days without sleep.

This surpassed previous adventures of walking for two and five days here also without sleep as well as walking around Barbados.

Both were delighted at being acknowledged for their efforts at nation building.
