Boxing packing comeback punches

The journey towards the revival of boxing here survived another round last weekend.

Eight boxers and two officials travelled to Trinidad and Tobago for friendly bouts.

Jahzeil Lewis captured the middleweight title, while Rolston Lewis secured the pin weight.

Shawn Tannis, Kevin Lewis and Anthony Guy had to settle for silver medals, losing their fights.

The local association also took along three female boxers, but were unable to get match ups for them.

Last weekend’s outing was used to prepare the boxers for upcoming championships, including the Pan American Games next year.

Whilst the association under the leadership of Winston Telesford is making efforts to get the sport on a firm footing, it is being floored by the absence of a proper ring and a place to conduct practice sessions.
