Shane Slater making a strong start

Vincentian Shane Slater made a strong start to the 2006-2007 college squash season with wins over George Washington University and Denison University in the first two matches.

Slater, who was the team’s MVP in his freshman year (playing mostly at the #8 position), continued to show his worth in his new position as #5, as he cruised past George Washington’s Matt Karim 9/3, 9/3, 9/0 and recovered from a nervous start to triumph 6/9, 10/8, 9/2, 9/7 over Denison’s Max Laverty. {{more}}

His victory against George Washington contributed to a 9-0 team win, but his 2nd win wasn’t enough to stop the determined Denison squad (preseason ranked #17), who pulled off a stunning 5-4 upset over the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats (preseason ranked #13).

The Diplomats hope to recover from the loss with a competitive weekend against powerhouses #1 Trinity College, #7 Dartmouth College and #9 Cornell University.
