Rotary and Trump to host golf tournament
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Rotary Club will shell out US$50,000.00 to bring over 100 amateur golfers and celebrities to Canouan next June for the first ever Rotary and Trump invitational golf tournament.
President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Rotary Club, Andre Cadogan, announced the plans for the massive fund raising tournament at a press conference recently. Proceeds from the mammoth venture, which will run from June 15-17 2007, will go towards a project at the St Maryâs Roman Catholic primary school and a major AIDS public awareness; âGet Tested, Get Helpâ campaign.{{more}}
Cadogan said that the Rotary club is looking forward to the golf tournament becoming an annual event and while he did not want to say what would be the projected income from hosting the tournament he did not dismiss a suggestion by one reporter of over one million dollars. They have engaged the services of Destination Management Services Limited out of Trinidad and Tobago to do the marketing of the event.
âWe are delighted to be part of this significant event and we are committed to the Rotary being successful in this venture,â said Francoca John, managing director of Destination Management Services Limited.
As part of the marketing strategy Rotaryâs Public relations Officer, Leroy Lewis said that they are trying to secure the services of one major celebrity to be the face of the tournament, helping to drive it forward.
âWe have a list of four to five names but because we have not entered into any arrangements as yet we canât reveal any names at this timeâ he said.
Cadogan said that the Rotary expects to be working closely with the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and expects to make a presentation to Minister Glenn Beache in the not too distant future about the planned tournament. Willing sponsors will also be approached to be a part of what the Rotary hopes will be âa historic event.â
Rotary officials have been meeting regularly over the last month to discuss among other things VIP hospitality, marketing, finances and travel management for the upcoming event.
