High praises for ICC Board
Governments of the nine host venues of Cricket World Cup 2007 (CWC 2007) have been lauded for bringing into law ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Bill – also known as the Sunset Legislation – to facilitate the hosting of the games.
Last month, Managing Director and CEO of CWC 2007, Chris Dehring, dropped a bombshell saying that seven of nine venues had not passed the law and if they do not do so by the November 1, 2006 deadline there was the likelihood that the games could be shifted to South Africa.{{more}}
âThis is a major step towards the Caribbeanâs hosting of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 – another definitive sign that the region is firmly committed to this mission,â Dehring and ICC CWC 2007 Senior Legal Counsel, Derek Jones, said in a joint release.
They added that âICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. and the Local Organising Committees (LOCs) of the nine Host Venues wish to thank the governments of the Caribbean for their commitment and determination in ensuring the recent passage of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Bill in all countries which will next year stage CWC matches.
âThe Caribbean is nearing the fulfillment of a decade-long journey to host cricketâs finest tournament and with Sunset Legislation – as the Bill is more familiarly known – now firmly in place, the essential regulatory and legislative framework has been established for managing CWC 2007 as obtains with all mega-sports events.â
They also lauded the CARICOMâs Legislative Drafting Facility and the Chief Parliamentary Counsel of each host venue as deserving of high acknowledgement for shaping this component of ICC CWC 2007 and for providing important guidance at various stages of the process.
