Canouan retains Grenadines netball title

Raffles Resort Canouan Islanders made it two in a row in the National Lotteries Authority Grenadines Netball tournament.

The islanders formalised their retention last weekend in Bequia, completing an unblemished record from their seven matches.

Canouan beat Union Island Secondary School 49-02, Union Island 27-12 and Bequia Community High 42-10.

Canouan ended the tournament with maximum fourteen points with Carriacou One docking in second with eleven points and Bequia third on ten points. {{more}}

But Canouan were not done as they added the Knock Out title to their list of silver ware, edging out Bequia 20-19 in the semi-final and beat Carriacou One 26-22 in the final.

The Grenadines glory crowned off a successful year for Canouan which earlier this year secured the Division 2A league and Knock Out titles in their first stint in the national club tournament.

The shooting competition also took place on the weekend and was won by Union Island’s combination of Mel Fredrick and Shunnel Tittle with 62 per cent accuracy. Fredrick though copped the individual award recording an 81 per cent shooting accuracy.

Nicolette Snagg of the double crowned champion had the most goals in the tournament. The player of the tournament was Brenda Alexander of Union Island.

National player Curlan Francis/Edwards was voted Canouan’s most valuable player. Others who received that similar accolade were Mandy Joseph – Carriacou One, Lesrine Edmund- Carriacou Two, Oslyn Bunyan- Bequia, Shunnel Tittle- Union Island, Nikesha Douglas -Mustique, Shantell Joseph- Bequia Community High and Earlana -Union Island- Secondary.
