World Cup Cricket coverage free to SVG

Vincentians will be able to watch and listen to the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 free of cost.

This is because the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) has found a major sponsor for the event – Cable and Wireless which has signed a US$1 million advertising agreement with the Barbados-based television company.

The agreement provides live coverage for five million listeners and viewers in 23 nations across the region.{{more}}

In return Cable and Wireless gets lead sponsorship in the post match commentary programme “At the Wicket” and exclusivity to advertise and promote its products and services.

“We are very enthusiastic about this association with CMC, since it complements our decision to become an official sponsor of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007,” said Cable and Wireless’ Chief Executive, Daryl Jackson.

“The alliance with CMC, and by extension its sub-licensees, will create a platform for Cable & Wireless to showcase the capabilities of its technologically advanced telecommunications network, allowing for the implementation of region wide promotions during the entire broadcast of the tournament,” he added.

He continued: “Whatever the outcome of the games, it is certain that the actual tournament and coverage of the event will bring enormous pride and unity to the people of the Caribbean to see a world sport played out on their stage – whether they watch it in the stadium, on TV, listen to the radio, or read about it in the newspapers.”

Commenting on the company’s overall cricket sponsorship programme, Fitzgerald Huggins, Head of Marketing, said that one of its priorities in the legacy of the tournament is to continue it’s commitment to develop a world-class telecommunications network which will give impetus to Government’s endeavours to attract potential inward investment in the Caribbean. Cable & Wireless is confident that this will create another opportunity for the people of the Caribbean to Win Big as a region.

Chief Operating Officer of CMC Errol Clarke signed the advertising sponsorship deal on behalf of CMC.
