Franco continues sponsorship for North Leeward 10K

Franco Construction Company is sponsoring the North Leeward 10K Classic for the second year. Last year, St Lucian Zephrinus Joseph eclipsed ace distance runner Pamenos Ballantyne to win the event. The showdown is set for October 29.

Joseph is expected to defend his title, and would be hoping to take home another $1,000 first prize. Ballantyne may want to look at this as an opportunity for revenge. So far, athletes from Trinidad and Tobago have indicated their willingness to attend and if regional invitations are accepted an impressive line up is in the making for this race.{{more}}

The 10K is carded to start at the bridge at Mangaroo and end at the Beach Front Restaurant at Fitz Hughes.

Besides the first prize, $600 is at stake for second, $400 for third and $200 for fourth.

There would also be a 5K starting from Belmont, half way between the villages of Rose Hall and Troumaca.

Franco Construction’s engineer Bradley Francis, and his brother Sylvanus, Plant manager handed over $10,000 to Team Athletics SVG’s president Keith Joseph last Monday.

The Franco Construction team also used the occasion to hand over $4,100 to the Franco St David North leeward Cricket team. That squad placed seventh in the RBTT Premier Division last season. Julius Anthony, president of the North Leeward Sports Association, the body behind the North Leeward Cricket squad, received the money on his team’s behalf.

Franco Construction Sub Contractors to the firm OECC, completed the first phase of the Cross Country Road from Troumaca to Rose Hall. Franco Construction would do Phase Two of the Cross Country Road, from Byera to Ferguson.
