20/20 cricket hits North Leeward

The 20/20 cricket bug has hit North Leeward. Matches in the 2006 Vinlec North Leeward Cricket tournament are expected to continue this weekend.

Last Sunday at Petit Bordel, Peto Stars defeated Rangers by 44 runs.

Peto Stars were dismissed for 94 off 14. 3 overs. Jeffery White, 27 not out.{{more}}

Rangers replied with 50 all out off 14 overs, Kent Lewis and Ronique Laborde, who both captured 3 for 12, wrecked them.

Troumaca United defeated Smokey by 87 runs.

Troumaca United scored 156 for 7 off 18.2 overs.

Dorson Cottle, 48, Emil Anthony, 31, and Hyden Ferdinand, 29, were the main contributors for Troumaca.

Smokey faltered for 69 all out off 13.3 overs.

Dwight Cyrus, 3 for 21, and Dorson Cottle, 3 for 17, were the chief wicket takers for Troumaca.

The North Leeward Sports Association is running the competition. The tournament was delayed owing to the unavailability of playing fields. According to an official, “We have worked hard to ensure that the tournament remains a reality. Teams and spectators were anxiously awaiting the commencement.”

Twelve teams are in this year’s championship, one more than last year. The teams are divided into two zones. The two top teams in each zone would qualify for the semi-finals. Games will be at Petit Bordel Playing Field, Saturdays and Sundays.
