SVG retains OECS Squash title

St. Vincent and the Grenadines retained the 2006 O.E.C.S Squash Championships in Tortola, which ended June 3.

They beat British Virgin Islands 7-3 and St. Lucia 9-1.

Prior to the team event, St. Vincent captured three of the five individual titles. James Bentick, Colin Alexander and Sherian Slater successfully defended their Men’s Open, Men’s 40+ and Women’s 40+ titles.{{more}}

In the Women’s Open Division, Musonda Poole (BVI) regained the title with victory over Sherian Slater. St. Vincent’s Rachel Haslam defeated teammate Greta Primus to claim third place.

In the Men’s 40+, Colin Alexander beat Leroy Edwards to clinch the title for the 5th consecutive time.

In the Women’s 40+, Sherian Slater defeated Rachel Haslam. The Men’s 50+ title went to Steve Steer (BVI), who defeated teammate and defending champ Jon Osman.

In the team event, the 10-person team of James Bentick, Paul Cyrus, Shane Slater, Leroy Edwards, Sherian Slater, Greta Primus, Deirdre Myers, Colin Alexander, Rachel Haslam and Keith Boyea dominated archrivals St. Lucia with a 9-1 victory.

The host team British Virgin Islands defeated the Vincentians 2-1.
