Browne’s hat-trick does it for Police II

Parnell Browne etched his name in local cricket history, becoming the first bowler to take a hat trick in the 20/20 format of the sport.

Browne’s feat was achieved last Sunday at the Buccament Bay Playing Field bagging 5 for 20, to steer Police Two to a 75 run win over South Leeward. Police stalled their opponents for 111 for 9 in 20 overs, in response to 186 made by the law officers.{{more}}

Shacky Williams (60) and Oneil Thomas (54) had earlier set the platform, as Tarik Mc Neil with 5 for 39 was South Leeward’s most successful bowler.

At the same venue, Police One had earlier recorded their second win for the weekend.

They humbled Franco Construction St. David by six wickets. St. David posted 86 for 9 in 15 overs, which Police One replied with 87 for 4 in 11 overs and 5 balls. Renrick Cato led the way with 26.

Police One on Saturday crushed South Leeward by 154 runs. Gerald Gould scored 41 not out and took 5 for 20 when South Leeward batted to crown off a good all-round performance. His knock assisted by Cato’s 61, pushed Police to 212 for in their 20 overs. Nicholas Thomas, 2 for 23, and Marlo Marshall, 2 for 38, were South Leeward’s principal wicket takers. Gould’s bowling saw South Leeward slumping to 58 all out in 11 overs.

Also recording two wins on the weekend was Victors One. Their victims were St. David and Vincom Numbgerz. On Saturday at Calliaqua, Victors made 155 for 7 in 20 overs, led by 58 from Miles Bascombe and 41 from Danson Andrews. St. David stopped at 137 in 19 overs and 4 balls, as Ian Allen, 3 for 9, and Hank Hall, 2 for 28, blocked their progress. Sheldon Hooper, 36, and William Edwards, 34, were St. David’s main contributors with the bat.

Victors One made it two in a row on Sunday, squeezing victory by 10 runs. Bascombe and Andrews were again in good form, making 68 and 56 respectively, sharing in a 111 opening stand. Numbgerz fell short at 173. Orlando Simmons, 57, and Donwell Hector 36 were not enough as Bertram Stapleton 3 for 20 and Hall 3 for 23 thwarted their thoughts.

Also enhancing their chances to the next phase of the competition were ECGC Radcliffe. They triumphed over Saints. Radcliffe posted 169 for 5 off 20 overs, as Ozni Billingy top scored with 55. Saints folded at 94. Seon Sween, 32, and Ronald Scott, 22, not out, resisted as Drumo Toney, 3, for 10, and Delorn Johnson, 2 for 26, carved out the 75 run win.

Radcliffe Two followed their seniors recording a convincing 85 run win over HMP Stars. Radcliffe Two amassed 200 for 3 in their 20 overs. Alston Mc Dowall hit 98 and Vibert King 36. HMP Stars were dismissed for 115.

Belmont beat Irie Travel Packers by six wickets. Packers made 171 with Henderson Morgan, 57, and Sylvannus Morgan, 31. Belmont chased well to reach 172 for 4 with three balls to spare. Jerome Samuel made 93 not out.

It was easy pickings for Spartans over Sion Hil. Responding to Sion Hill’s 155 for 6 in 20 overs; Spartans knocked off the total losing one wicket. Reynold Mc Lean hit 69 not out and Uzzah Pope 48.

And, Log Masters defeated Brownstown by 7 wickets. Brownstown totaled 151 and Log Masters successfully chased reaching 158 for 3. Harvey Pope made 77 not out.

This weekend will see another round of matches in the Neil Williams Competition.
