STAGE SET FOR GRENADINES TOURNEY TODAY

The stage is set for the much anticipated Annual Grenadines Tournament, which begins this evening in Ashton, Union Island. Hosted, organized and financed by the Bequia Basketball Association, with contributions from Sprite, SVG Air, Frangipani Hotel and trophies courtesy of Adonal Foyle, the tournament runs on a tight and challenging two week fixture – May 19th to 28th, with finals and trophy presentation in Bequia May 28th.{{more}}

The Bequia Association, under the leadership of Sabrina Mitchell, along with her executive committee, co-ordinates two tournaments annually, the Grenadines tournament, which has become a competition of national stature, as well as the annual Bequia Tournament, scheduled to open on July 15th.

In the upcoming Grenadines tourament, Carriacou, Mayreau, Mustique, Union Island, Canouan and defending champions Bequia will vie for bragging rights in the Grenadines, where basketball is alive and well. The parliamentary representatives of the Grenadines, Hon Dr. Loraine Friday and Hon. Terrence Ollivierre lend support and endosement to the annual competition in their area of jurisdiction.

The Bequia Association and its All-Star Club have just returned from a six day tour to the island of St. Maarten, which is an annual tradition for the team and its coaching and management staff, affording the players of Bequia the opportunity to test their skills on a regional level.
