Female cricketers prepare for regional tournament

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Women Cricketers will be trying to recapture the Senior Regional title in St. Lucia next month.

By then, a squad would have been selected. A 21 member party is slated to take part in two 50 over per side practice matches against their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts tomorrow May 20 at London playing Field in North Windward and Sunday, May 21 at Keartons.{{more}}

The players are: Cordel Jack, Shevonne Clarke, Juliana Nero, Jean Bluthcer, Camille Garrick, Shevonne Cato, Sherriann John, Sherry-Ann Abbott, Terisha Lavia, Melissa Bellingy, Myschia George, Marsha Hooper, Beverly Glasgow, Genielle Greaves, Nicole Samuel, Maria Abbott, Rochelle John, Phernel Charles, Earlene DeGrads, Clea Hoyte and Samantha Lynch. Genita Lewis will manage the squad while Cleton Burnett serves as coach.

General Manager of Finishing and Furnishing Omroy “O T” Mayers on Monday gave a motivational talk to the national women’s cricket team.

In his remarks, Mayers emphasized the importance of being a team player, and told the women that only through team work will there be success. He also encouraged players to motivate themselves and others, and gave them tips on how they should deal with the critics during and after games.

SVG National Team plays two regional one-dayers on the 21st and 22nd of May, against Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago is the current regional champion.
