Morgan tastes Masters triumph
McNeil âTasteâ Morgan has made his mark on the regional level. He was a fast bowler of some repute. Some people think that he was unfortunate not to have earned a call up for West Indies duties.
One with experience on the English League scene, Morgan displayed his quality in a 15 over Masters series last week Monday at Keartons Playing Field.{{more}}
He secured the Most Valuable Player title and received a token $100 reward. Morgan guided the Arnos Vale Masters to their triumph.
Arnos Vale reached 106 for 3 off 13 overs in reply to Central Leewardâs 105 in the final.
Former Windwards allrounder Monty Warner, 25 not out, was the pick of the Arnos Vale batsmen.
Cecil Gordon, 30, was top scorer for Central Leeward.
But the performance that propelled Morgan to his title was against North Leewardâs Cool Veterans. Morgan hit 31 unbeaten, which steered Arnos Vale to a three-wicket win.
He shared an unbeaten 35 run eight-wicket partnership with Eddie Hadaway 07. They came together with the score on 60 for 7. Cool Veterans scored 94 for 8 from their 15 overs.
Morgan, 2 for 3 in that match, copped the MVP award.
Kelsworth Lewis, 5 for 23, threatened to rip through the Arnos Vale batting. But Morgan and Hadaway held firm.
Hadaway with 5 for 20 in the two games had the best average in the competition.
Also on the award list was former Windwardsâ opener Lance John. He had the most runs, 66 against Spring Village and 30 against Arnos Vale.
Central Leeward earned their berth in the final with a 29 run win over Spring Village. Propped by Johnâs 66, and supported by Kendol Douglas, 37, and Keyon Jack, 26, Central Leeward piled up 179 for 5 from their 15 overs.
Spring made 140 for 7 in their 15 overs with Conroy Ryan, 43, and Jemel Jeffrey, 31, doing the bulk of the scoring.
The Cricket festival came as part of Labour Day activities. Organisers, including Richard Todd formerly of the New York-based Cavaliers Cricket Club was instrumental in the competition of the tournament. He pledged to make it an annual event, which he outlined, was designed to enhance comraderie between the Masters.
