NCB takes home interfinancial sports

Tired legs, sore muscles, sun-tanned skins, but smiling faces, bore the story at the end of the sixth annual interfinancial institutions fun day.

This was when workers last Saturday afternoon traded their office apparatus for athletic gear, to compete for supremacy. {{more}}

The Arnos Vale Playing Field with the visible Caribbean Sea in the background and the continued upgrade of that venue went on oblivious to the many athletes.

From the traditional to contemporary events, four financial institutions, the National Commercial Bank, RBTT Bank, FirstCaribbean International, and the St. Vincent Cooperative Bank competed for honours. And the trappings of the cheer-leaders as well as a heavy dose of Caribbean music, to go along with the many dishes and liquid refreshments kept those present aware of the proceedings.

In an all family affair, children of employees and other close relatives were also engaged in competitive action in various age groups.

The much anticipated “congaline” brought out the gyrating and timing ability of the often conservative clerks, with “the lime and spoon”, “the sack race”, “the three-legged race”, “the needle and thread.” The near sensuous “banana race”, “potato race”, and the strenuous “tug-o-war” all added to the afternoon’s happening. Fun was the common thread as taking bragging rights were more important than the trophies and medals.

When the dust had settled and fatigue quite evident, and dusk imminent, the tabulated scores showed the National Commercial Bank on 260 points, FirstCaribbean International 205, last year’s winner RBTT 162 and first timer St. Vincent Cooperative Bank 116.

Vennol O’Garro of NCB and Jeremy Charles of RBTT shared the prize of top male performer. They tallied 15 points apiece. Leslie Kirby- Mc Kenzie of FirstCaribbean took the top female athlete award scoring 21 points.

The sports meet was conducted by Team Athletics SVG.
