Mountain View Academy on top

Mountain View Academy, accustomed to being the whipping boys in United Insurance Secondary Schools Cricket, turned the tables on all others to take the 2006 title. They beat last year’s winner the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia in emphatic fashion with a four-wicket victory at the Arnos Vale Playing Field last Wednesday. {{more}}

Mountain View Academy cruised to 146 for 6 in 33 overs.

It was a team effort, with consistent and devastating battles over some of the other much-fancied institutions. But Donwell Hector 85 not out, justified his award as Most Valuable Player in the final.

Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia scored 145 all out off 34.4 overs.

From there onwards, it was the Hector sector.

He shared a vital 72 run third wicket stand with Brensley Bobb 17. They came together at 15 for two and Bobb fell with the score on 87. But Hector remained resolute, even dominant towards the end. His stroke play ignited his colleagues and supporters into jubilant shouts, long before the mission was accomplished.

Mountain View Academy’s success was reward for their years of struggle in the cricket wilderness. Since United Insurance began sponsoring the tournament in 1984, this is the first time that Mountain View Academy has etched its name on the winner’s plaque. Ron Adams 31 and Danny Allen 24 contributed to Emmanuel Mesopotamia’s total.

Alvis Christopher 3 for 26 was the leading wicket taker for Mountain View Academy.
