Region Gets More Doping Officers

Caribbean RADO with its by-line “PLAY TRUE” hosted a five-day workshop and conference February 20th to 24th 2006 in association with the World Anti Doping Agency “WADA” to train Doping Control Officers (DCO’s) {{more}}

The workshop and regional meetings in St George’s, Grenada were hosted by The Grenadian Ministry of Co-operatives Youth & Sports and the Grenadian National Olympic Committee.

Participating countries : St Lucia, Bermuda Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, Turks & Caicos, Grenada, Suriname, St Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, and St Vincent & the Grenadines each had two representatives trained to WADA standards as DCO’s.

The two representatives from St Vincent & the Grenadines who were successfully trained as DCO’ s were Thelma Foster and Rudi Daniel.

The Caribbean RADO board also held its regional meeting, with Dr Perry De Freitas as representative for St Vincent & the Grenadines. At this meeting, the draft regional structure and guidelines were agreed upon and a chairman, Dr Adrian Lorde of Barbados, was elected to serve for two years.

The Caribbean RADO’s headquarters will be based in Barbados and will be operational as of April 1st, 2006 . The Administrator Mr Neil Merrell is currently at the Winter Olympics in Italy as a WADA observer.
