Phills grabs Charles Chocolate X-Cel Tennis Challenge Trophy

Jerond Phills is establishing himself as one to be reckoned with in tennis circles here. He took the Challenge Trophy for outstanding performance throughout the Charles Chocolate X-Cel Tennis Academy Independence Tie-Breaker. That tournament wound up October 29 after five days on the court. {{more}}

The tournament saw 45 youngsters competing in Boys and Girls 12,14,16,18 singles. Jerond Phills turned out to be a revelation with titles at the 14, and 16 segments. His eventual selection for the Challenge trophy came as a matter of course. Shane Latchman took the 12, section, and Kevin Mathurin disposed of the others in the 18 and under category. Danielle Cupid won the Girls 16 and 18 categories, while Siara Goodluck, 12 and Anasha Crooke, 14 were the other winners. Most improved male was Myles Dalrymple, and his female counterpart Roscian Charles. The prize for the most disciplined player was awarded to Jamitto James.

Organisers, coaches Samantha Goodluck and Kebakjah King thought it was necessary to build sports into our independence celebrations.
