New boat triumphs in Independence race
In last Sunday’s annual Independence Day race, organized by the Bequia Sailing Club, all eyes were on the 28-foot “Cloudy Bay”, racing for the first time in Bequia. Built and skippered by Arnold Hazell of Paget Farm, “Cloudy Bay” delighted her supporters by coming in a clear first, ahead of “Perseverance”, “BraveHeart”, “Spank” and “Confusion”. {{more}}
In the 18-foot class, “Tornado” was the winner, followed by “Shamu” and “DeVine”, and in the 14-foot class, “Never D” beat âMy Wayâ to take first place.
A total of eleven boats turned out to race in perfect weather conditions, with a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters following the race from start to finish.
Bottlers Ltd. (St. Vincent) continued their longstanding support of the Bequia Sailing Club by generously donating Mount Gay Rum and Pepsi to the post-race celebrations.
Preparations are already well underway for the Bequia Sailing Club’s 25th anniversary Easter Regatta (13th – 17th April 2006), and a record turn-out of yachts, local boats and visitors is once again anticipated.
