Four advance to Top Belair quarter-finals

Four more teams have advanced to the quarter- final stage of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Softball Cricket Competition.

CGM Novice, Nar Fren Dem, Fair Hall Falcons and Gomea Bombers, all secured wins last weekend to continue their march to the top spot. {{more}}

Novice, led by Gosnel Cupid’s 59 and Peter Campbell’s 32, posted 169 for 7 against Vincom Nex Level. Morrison Edwards with 4 for 27 was Nex Level’s most successful bowler.

The bowling combination of Kenroy Martin 4 for 31, Damian Chance 2 for 3 and Malcovin Jack 2 for 17, dismissed Nex Level for 60.

It was also an easy victory for Sea Operations Nah Fren Dem over Carib Pearl New Track Guys. Nah Fren Dem replying to New Tack Guys’ 70, reached 74 for 4 in 15 overs, with Rayan Antoine top scoring with 39 not out.

Another team that fell by the wayside was East Bank. Fair Hall Falcons was responsible for derailing them by 19 runs.

Troy Harry hit 47 as Fair Hall Falcons made 119 in 19.1 overs. Christophe St John 2 for 21, Anthony Joseph 2 for 23 and Amos Clarke 2 for 31 shared the bowling honours for East Bank.

At their turn, East Bank stopped at 100 for 8.

Marlon Farrell’s 38, and St. John’s 21 were insufficient, as Kerwin Browne ensured Fair Hall Falcons’ quarterfinal berth.

Likewise, Gomea Bombers took out Aunt Jobe’s Older Boys.

An all-round performance by Sylvannus Morgan helped carve out the Bombers’ win. Morgan scored 33, but was overshadowed by Rommel Currency who went one better scoring 34, as the Bombers notched up the challenging total of 148 for 8 in 20 overs.

Rodney Gibson 3 for 37 and Freddie Campbell 3 for 39 were the principal wicket takers for Older Boys.

Morgan then bagged 4 for 20, and with support from Kendall Payne 3 for 18; Older Boys could only reach 90 for 8 in their 20 overs.

The two other quarter finalists will be decided tomorrow as hot favourite RSVG Police meet Karib Cable Snipers from 1 p.m., followed by HMP Stars versus Pine Hill Nice Radio Clinchers from 3 p.m.

Two quarter final matches are set for Sunday.

From 10:30 a.m. Fair Hall Falcons face Vinlec Shot Callers and from 1 p.m. Kingstown Hill United meet Nah Fren Dem.

The weekend’s action at the Dauphine Playing Field will be completed by two knock-out matches. CGM Novice play High Rollers from 3:15 p.m., then RSVG Police take on Fountain Rangers.
