Guyana make light work of Trinidad and Tobago

THE CLASS of the competition thus far, Guyana, all confidence and aggression, emphasised Sunday why they are the top side and Trinidad and Tobago at rock-bottom.

The only unbeaten side in the KFC tournament, Guyana, without ever really being challenged, crushed winless Trinidad and Tobago by eight wickets at 3:46 p.m. The victory, one of the most comprehensive over the past week, was completed in the 40th over and earned Shiv Chanderpaul’s side a bonus point. {{more}}

Not a single Trinidad batsman reached 30 in another pathetic display as they folded for 172 in 42 overs. It is not a strong batting side with Dwayne Bravo batting as high as three, and were struggling from the outset, losing their first three wickets for 39.

The bowling has been similarly ineffective and in ideal conditions at the Windward ground in St Philip, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Krishna Arjune posted an opening stand of 131 that was the launching pad for success.

The left-handed Chattergoon stroked his way to a delightful unbeaten 78 and was named Man-Of-The-Match.

Captain Daren Ganga, the only Trinidadian to pass 50 in the tournament, blamed lack of “commitment and application on the part of the batsmen”.
