This Vincentian has proven his worth on the international front with three Commonwealth Middle Heavy Weightlifting medals. Two of those medals were silver won competing for Britain in Jamaica 1966, the other in Melbourne Australia 1968. The third, a bronze was won for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Scotland in 1970.

Though originally from ‘Bottom Town’, Manners prides himself on having grown up at ‘Long Wall’ on the eastern end of Capital City Kingstown. He recalls training with other Vincentian bodybuiders Maurice King and Freddie Ballantyne before going abroad.

He is now based in Britain where he coaches in weightlifting and works on strengthening and conditioning athletes.

At last Monday’s Franco Construction sponsored event the veteran said he was excited about the move.

“That’s a step in the right direction,” assured Manners who has a wealth of experience in competition and coaching.
