Chatoyers grabs Francis Lau Chatoyer grabs Francis Lau Road Round D Town Relay

Athletes from the North Windward area continue to dominate road races here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Their latest triumph came last Sunday, when the flagship team, Chatoyers, laid hands on the top prize in the first ever Francis Lau Round D Town Road Relay. {{more}}

Led by top Caribbean distance athlete Pamenos Ballantyne, Chatoyers finished ahead of the other six teams, to win the Open Male Category. Chatoyers completed the four -legged event in 29 mins 32.59 secs.

Chatoyers’ last athlete had more than a half-minute’s rest before ACE crossed the finished line. ACE clocked 30 mins 05.12 secs to finish second. Securing the third spot was Pepsi Sion Hill in 30 mins 49.94 secs.

In the Open Female category, TRAC emerged winner in a three -way battle. TRAC finished the event in 41 mins 53.34 secs, out pacing Sion Hill into second spot, and the SVG Coast Guard, third.

But it was the school’s division, that provided the close rivalry, as the youngsters showed great enthusiasm in their effort.

The Georgetown Secondary copped the male category among the Secondary schools. The Campden Park Secondary and the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua followed them closely to the finish line.

The Girls’ High School clocked 40 mins 27.16 secs to take the female category. It was a double second for Campden Park Secondary and a double third for the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua.

Spring Village Primary triumphed in the male category of the Primary segment. The four youthful athletes completed the journey in 36 mins 86.82 secs. Calliaqua Anglican ended second, and the Stubbs Primary Third.

The females of the Stubbs Primary made amends for their male counterparts, by copping in the first and second prizes, trailing Stubbs to the tape was the Kingstown Anglican.

This Sunday, the senior athletes will take to the road in the OECS Half Marathon trail. The route mapped out for this 13 -mile race by Team Athletics SVG, takes runners from Lowmans Windward to the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

And as athletics, more so road running, makes a grand resurgence, October 16, will be the turn of North Leeward as the Franco Construction 10km race is held in that locale.

Bequia gets its turn, October 30, with the staging of a 5km race for under 15’s and 10 km for those 15 and over.

Marriaqua and North Windward are also earmarked for similar events in November.
