Browne excited with team’s prospects

Elvis Browne, manager of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Cricket team, is confident that his squad can return to the helm of Windwards Cricket. He was speaking at the Wilf Slack Nets last Tuesday.

The party leaves for their venture tomorrow Saturday September 17. They will be called into action the following day. Browne was encouraged by what he saw as the preparations built up. {{more}}

He admitted that the team’s chances were “very good,” and indicated the “need to have them focussed.”

He is heartened by the all-round ability of the squad, with bowlers like Captain Deighton Butler, Orlando Jackson, Kenroy Peters, and Hank Hall. He thinks of them as capable lower order batsmen.

Browne welcomed opening batsman Romel Currency’s return, and newcomers Danson Andrews, Miles Bascombe and Harley Skerrit.

Roland Wilkinson, is a player capable of producing runs, as well as picking up wickets. A former Windwards player, Wilkinson will be anxious for a recall.

Lyndon James has proven his quality at the Windwards level as a wicketkeeper batsman, and may want to stamp his authority.

Hyron Shallow had a fairy tale entry to national duties, then grafted his way into the Windwards squad.

Cricket fans will be curious about him.

The others in the party are Dyke Cato, an off spinner and Norlan Williams. Coach is Ian Allen.
