12 teams secure places

Twelve teams have assured their places in the next phase of the National Lotteries Top Belair Softball Cricket Competition.

Confirming their passage from Group A are Shot Callers, Five Road and Older Boys.

Emerging from Group B are RSVG Police, CGM Novice, New Track Guys and East Bank, while Fair Hall Falcons and Nah Fren Dem have made it to round of sixteen. Group D sees Kingstown Hill United, Gomea Bombers, and Clinchers among those to challenge for the league title. {{more}}

With four places up for grabs, HMP Stars will be seeking to secure one of these places, when they face Fountain Rangers from 1:15 pm tomorrow at the Dauphine Playing Field.

Last weekend, several teams formalise their entry to the knock out phase.

Nah Fren Dem gained full points against Vincom Nex Level. Jamal Ash’s 20 was the top score in Nex Level’s total of 56 scored in 15.4 overs. Nah Fren Den took 9.1 overs to reach 58 for the loss of five wickets.

But it was a blow out victory for CGM Novice over the less fancied Smirnoff Sugar Corner Giants.

Led by a stroke-filled 77 from Gosnel Cupid and 54 from Trevor Bailey, Novice raced to 205 for 5 in their 25 overs.

Sugar Corner Giants folded for 89 in 20.4 overs. Ricardo Thomas 4 for 13 and Roderick John 2 for 15 carved out the win for Novice.

Also formalising continuation in the league race was Kingstown Hill United. Anthony Lee blasted 59 not out, to push Kingstown Hill to 158 for 7, then Desley Parris 3 for 6 and Dodridge Small 3 for 9, bowled their team to triumph, as Rivals were bowled out for 77 in 17.2 overs.

Falcons thought faltered against Karib Cable Snipers. Christopher Campbell (41) and Marlon Williams (25) were the main contributors in Snipers’ total of 140 for 6 in 20 overs. James George bagged 3 for 15 bowling for the Falcons.

Responding Falcons were dismissed for 79 in 15.2 overs.

The other match played last weekend, saw Pine Hill Nice Radio Clinchers eking out a 22 run win at the expense of Gomea Bombers.

Curlan John was the architect of Clincher’s triumph. He hit a top score of 39 in his team’s innings of 114, then had bowling figures of 4 for 15 as Bombers fell short at 92 all out. Hyron Shallow took 2 for 4 bowling for the victors.

RSVGPolice and New Track Guys will sharpen their skills from 3:15pm tomorrow, as the preliminary round winds down.

On Sunday from 9 am, Dr. Thomas Injectors meet Sugar Corner Giants in a match merely for the records. From noon that same day, Aunt Jobe’s Older Boys face Cyndale Five Roads in a dress rehearsal.

The weekend is capped off with Clinchers taking on Kelbourney Bangers from 3:15 p.m.
