Arnos Vale Playing Field redo

The first phase of the reconfiguration of the Arnos Vale Playing Field has begun as St.Vincent and the Grenadines prepare to host Warm-up matches in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

The removal of the southern press box and temporary bleachers, form the initial part of the renovations to this country’s premier sports facility.{{more}}

A modern media centre and the concrete bleachers, which are currently positioned at the northeastern end of the ground, will replace these.

The reconstruction which began last week also involved the bulldozing of the perimeter wall in the vicinity of Great Head.

Other major works carded for upgrade are the re-routing of the eastern river and establishment of office centre at the northern end.

Manager of the National Sports Council Osborne Browne, speaking at the opening of the Ju-c Arnos Vale Football League last Saturday, announced that the adjoining ground Arnos Vale II formed part of the upgrade.

He disclosed that the field would be fenced and re-grassed.

The cost of the renovations of the compound has been estimated at EC$23 million.

This country hosts Australia, England, Zimbabwe and Bermuda.

Action begins March 5,when England plays Bermuda. The following day Australia meets Zimbabwe.

The Arnos Vale Playing Field will be alive with the Bermuda versus Zimbabwe clash March 8.

World champions Australia face England March 9.

Dr. Ralph Gonsalves at a political rally last Sunday said he had proposed that the Australians spend two weeks here prior to their group matches. This he said would be a boost to the country’s tourism product.

The 2007 World Cup opens March 13, with West Indies playing Pakistan in Jamaica.

The Super Eights run from March 27 to April 21.The semi-finals are scheduled for Jamaica and St.Lucia.

Barbados hosts the final April 28.
