SVG Launches Right on Track Programme

Team Athletics SVG launched its “Right on Track “(ROT) Programme last Saturday morning at the National Sports Council’s office, at Arnos Vale.

The programme which is aimed at unearthing new athletics talents while building on existing ones will bring together several local coaches going to the various areas in St. Vincent and the Grenadines giving training in various events.{{more}}

The events to be covered are long jump, triple jump, shot putt, discus, javelin, high jump, sprints, distance, hurdles and the walk.

The coaches identified in the initial phase of the programme are Woodrow Williams, Godfrey Harry, Conroy Dyer, Cornel Cambridge, Rawlson Morgan and Vincent Benjamin.They have the task of moving through the areas each Saturday instructing athletes on the rudiments of the various events.

Regional support came from Trinidad and Tobago’s Right on Track Co-ordinator, Rae Samuel, while Claire Miller of the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago gave her company’s involvement in the programme.

Local contributions came from President of Team Athletics Keith Joseph, Manager of the National Sports Council, Osborne Browne and Minister of Sports Clayton Burgin.
