Cordel Jack is leading bat in women’s cricket

Cordel Jack underlined that she is among the top female cricketers in the region, with another outstanding performance.

The Vincentian opener recorded the highest aggregate (111) in the league competition of the 2005 senior championship that concluded here last Sunday.{{more}}

A player for the big occasion, Jack also recorded the best batting average, 37 and returned the best bowling figures of 4 for 14.

Although Jack missed out on the top award of player of the tournament, she stood head and shoulders above her teammates.

Jack was voted the Most Valuable Player at last year’s senior tournament in Trinidad and Tobago and repeated that feat at the Under-23 level on home soil.

The plump, strongly-built Jack has added the leadership dimension to her growing repertoire.

This was evident as she displayed poise in her team’s failed attempt to retain the league title in deciding match versus Trinidad and Tobago. Jack, who opened the innings, was last out as SVG fell for 114, in search of the victory target of 118.

Outstripping Jack on gaining the Player of the Tournament award was Barbadian Pamela Lavine.

Lavine, a teammate of Jack on the West Indies that toured South Africa earlier this year to participate in the Women’s World Cup had the tournament highest score 65 and had an aggregate of 188 runs and bagged six wickets at the cost of ninety five runs.

Another top performer was Trinidadian Envis Williams, who had the most wickets in figures in the league competition-nine and had the best bowling returns in the Knock -out, of nine overs, six maidens, four runs for two runs.

Williams’ captain, Stephanie Powers was voted the best wicketkeeper, while Guyanese Indomatie Goordial had the best bowling average, 5.88.

Goordial was also named her team’s best fielder.

Others awarded their team’s best fielder were Charlene Taitt of Barbados, Swaylene Williams- St. Lucia, Sherry Ann John – St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Kirbyina Alexander-Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago won the league title, with St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, Barbados and St.Lucia following in that order.

The twin-island republic retained the knock out title.
