Peto Stars take Vinlec title

Peto Stars left nothing to chance and maintained their unbeaten run in the 2005 Vinlec North Leeward Cricket tournament. They secured a massive 143 run victory over Enforcers in last Sunday’s Vinlec North Leeward final.

Peto Stars scored 269 all out. A solid knock by right-handed opener Nicholas Williams 77 formed the platform of that total. He shared a third wicket 93 run partnership with Adonel Stapleton 40. They came together at 73 for 2 and took the score to 165. {{more}}

Orland Hooper 34 provided further middle order resistance. Gerald Gould 3 for 50, was the chief wicket taker for Enforcers.

Enforcers were dismissed for 126, wrecked by Dale Michael 5 for 21. Orland Hooper 3 for 48 was also among the wickets as well as Ronique Laborde 2 for 25. Stinson Ince 32 was the leading batsman for Enforcers.

Peto Stars will receive the Vinlec Challenge Trophy following a presentation match Sunday August 28. That game features a Vinlec XI and a North Leeward Sports Association team.

Outstanding performers will be rewarded at a ceremony following the match. Eleven teams started the competition. It boiled down to eight quarterfinalists and the elimination process went on to two semifinal games.

Enforcers beat Troumaca United while Peto Stars disposed of Ajuba One.

That tournament is used as a means of selection for the North Leeward team, which takes part in the Hairoun Zonal Independence Cricket competition.

And as a matter of introducing the 2005 football season, a 30 minute turn around football match between Vinlec High Voltage and a North Leeward team will signal the start of the North Leeward Football season.
