Bonan tennis team victorious in St Lucia

Bonan Tennis School defeated Marcelle’s Tennis Academy of St. Lucia 25 matches to 23 in the First Caribbean International Bank Tennis Series played at Club St.Lucia from August 10 to 13.

On the first day Marcelle’s led 17 matches to 14 only to be reversed on the second day with Bonan winning 10 of the 12 matches to lead 24 matches to 19. The series was interrupted with heavy rains on the third day with Bonan winning overall by 25 matches to twenty-three in a closely fought series extending their win four to one. {{more}}

Medals were presented to Lerissa Morris for being the most outstanding player, Halima Michael for the most improved player, along with Daneya Charles for the most promising player. The best sportsman was Agostini Soleyn. Lerissa Morris received the Challenge Trophy on behalf of Bonan Tennis School. Bonan Tennis Team was sponsored for the third consecutive year by First Caribbean International Bank, with Digicel coming aboard for the first time.

Meanwhile, 15 players from Bonan Tennis School, along with other players from Great Head and Excel Tennis Academies participated in the ITF Coca Cola International Tournament held at Club St. Lucia from August 15 to 20. The Vincentians brought home three (3) titles: Halima Michael and Daneya Charles winning the Girls Under-12 Doubles with Fabrice George and Daryl MacLeish taking the Boys Under-12 Doubles and Shane Huggins and Kohei Toshihara winning the Boys Under-14 Doubles. Fabrice George reached the Boys Under-12 Singles Semi-Finals, while Halima Michael lost in the Girls Under-12 Finals, Michelle Gun-Munro lost in the both Girls 14 Singles and Doubles Semi-Finals.

Kirk Da Silva also reached the Semi-Finals in Doubles teaming up with Jamaican Eldad Campbell. Danielle Cupid won the Girls 14 Singles Consolation. This is one of the better showing for St.Vincent and the Grenadines in recent times.
