Women’s Cricket returns to SVG

Cleyton Burnette, coordinator for this year’s West Indies Women’s Cricket Federation tournament, and Gwenneth Anthony, the local Association’s treasurer are confident that everything will go smoothly with the tournament.

“SVG is in a good position to host a successful tournament,” Burnette pointed out last Tuesday. He was at a media briefing at the Arnos Vale Playing Field. {{more}}

SVG agreed to host the tournament after bad weather caused by the passage of Hurricane Emily forced the cancellation of the original tournament scheduled for Jamaica July 16 – July 31.

The Vincentian squad underwent some stress with the change of arrangements for the tournament, but according to Coach Roxel John, they are adjusting psychologically.

A 14-member squad announced for the original showdown remains the same. The team includes newcomers medium pacer Marsha Hooper, and wicketkeeper Nicole Samuel.

The rest of the party is Earlene Degrads, Beverly Glasgow, Clea Hoyte, Geneille Greaves, Juliana Nero, Jean Blucher, Cordell Jack, Sherry Ann John, Phernell Charles, Jennifer Charles, Samantha Lynch and Rochelle John.

Manager is Genita Lewis.
