West Indies battle but lose to India

India weathered a brave fight back by West Indies to win by seven runs and qualify for the tri-series final.

They set West Indies 263 to win after a blistering century by Yuvraj Singh and an unbeaten 83 from Mohammad Kaif. {{more}}

Anil Kumble (3-38) reduced West Indies to 112-6 but Runako Morton hit 84 and keeper Denesh Ramdin an unbeaten 74.

However, with 12 runs required for a major upset, left-armer Ashish Nehra held his nerve to bowl a fine last over, conceding just four.

Yuvraj top-scored with 110 from 114 balls, rescuing India from 51-3 with a fourth-wicket stand of 165 with Kaif.

Sri Lanka grab final

Meanwhile, Sanath Jayasuriya became the fourth man to score 10,000 runs in one-dayers as Sri Lanka beat India by 18 runs to win the triangular series final in Colombo.

The 36-year-old opener, in his 337th match, made 67 from 77 balls before he was run-out in his team’s 281-8.

Virender Sehwag got the reply off to a fiery start with nine fours and a six in 48 off 22 balls before departing.

Rahul Dravid made 71 but five wickets fell for 24 runs in six overs and India were stranded on 263-9 after 50 overs.

Jayasuriya reached the run milestone in style by pulling fast bowler Irfan Pathan to the boundary in the fifth over.

He joins Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Inzamam-ul-Haq in the exclusive 10,000-run club.

Left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra was the only bowler to take any wickets for India, returning 6-59 to claim his second five-wicket haul at this level.
