Ajuba One, Smokey battle for semis spot

Ajuba One and Smokey will battle for the last semifinal spot this Sunday July 24 in the North Leeward Cricket tournament.

The winner advances to the penultimate version of the competition and will play against Peto Stars for a final spot.

Peto Stars qualified with a comfortable 142 run win over Ajuba Two at Petit Bordel on July 10.{{more}}

Peto Stars scored 286 for 7 off the allotted 40 overs, and Ajuba Two replied with 144 all out off 28 overs.

That victory was due to an all round team effort, but if there were to be a Man of the Match, Dale Michael 60, and 3 for 36 would have been in contention.

Nicholas Williams 61, and Orland Hooper 46 also contributed with the bat while Ronique LaBorde, 4 for 32, was the leading wicket taker for Peto Stars.

Kemal Williams with 33 was the leading batsman for Ajuba Two.

The showdown for the other final spot sees Enforcers and Troumaca United in action after they earned their semifinal berths with victories over the last weekend.

Troumaca United beat Somerset by two wickets last Sunday.

Former Windwards opener Reynold McLean, from Stubbs, made his presence felt as a guest player for Troumaca.

McLean hit 90, supported by Hayden Ferdinand, 37, and Emil Anthony, 30, to guide Troumaca to 213 for 8 off 28 overs in reply to Somerset’s 211 all out off 36.2 overs.

That innings was built around a superb knock from Orlando Charles who contributed 98. Nelson Williams, 4 for 43, was the most successful bowler for Somerset, while Calvert St. Hill, 3 for 21, was the top bowler for Troumaca.

In another game, Enforcers got the better of 2004 champion D’Affairs.

William ‘Buddy Willie’ Edwards captain of the Enforcers team played an all-round role for his team with a knock of 55 and

3 for 20. He helped Enforcers to 207 all out off 34 overs with support from Verrol Snagg 57.

D’Affairs fell for 105 off 24 overs.

Tournament organisers the North Leeward Sports Association has scheduled a match in honour of sponsors St. Vincent Electricity Services(VINLEC). That will be tomorrow Saturday July 23 at 10 am. It will feature a clash between a North Leeward XI and VINLEC squad.

The two semifinal matches are slated for Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31 from which the winners will progress to the final set for August 7.
