Hooper, Samuel selected to senior squad

Two newcomers are among the St. Vincent and the Grenadines fourteen-member team, charged with the responsibility of retaining the West Indies Women’s cricket title. {{more}}

The two are medium-pacer Marsha Hooper and wicketkeeper/batsman Nicole Samuel.

Returning to national representation are ace spinner Earlene DeGrads, batsman Beverly Glasgow and medium pacer Clea Hoyte.

The batting lies in the hands of captain Geneille Greaves, Juliana Nero, Jean Blucher and Cordell Jack.

Sherry Ann John, Phernell Charles, and Jennifer Charles will carry the brunt of the pace attack. Samantha Lynch and Rochelle John add punch to the spin attack.

Coach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team, Roxell John, said that he is banking on the all round ability of the team.

“Most of the players are versatile,” John claimed.

John said that he was satisfied with the fitness level of the fourteen players, who will travel to Jamaica July 16.

He explained that with this issue corrected, he was confident of retention of the regional crown, which was first gained last year in Trinidad and Tobago.

St.Vincent and the Grenadines plays Guyana at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground July 18 in the opening round.

The sternest tests for the defending champion should come from Trinidad

and Tobago July 22, at Kensington Park, and versus St. Lucia at Kirkwine Oval

July 26.

This year’s regional tournament which ends July 31, also involves Canada.
