Female cricketers ready to defend title

St.Vincent and the Grenadines goes in defence of the West Indies Women’s cricket title, July 18 at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground in Jamaica.

The following day, the Vincentians play newcomers Canada at Broilers.{{more}}

The next encounter for the defending champion is against hosts Jamaica at Chedwin Park, July 21.

SVG meets Trinidad and Tobago, July 22, at Kensington Park, and Barbados the next day at Bogwalk.

The penultimate match for the Vincentians will be versus Grenada July 25, at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The battle of the Saints unfolds at the Kirkvine Oval July 26, when SVG plays St. Lucia.

The Knock-out phase of the tournament starts July 28.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines team has been trimmed to seventeen, following last weekend’s trial matches. With eyes set on the retention of the League, selectors have gone for the experienced players in the line up.

Those seeking places in the final fourteen are Geneille Greaves, Jean Blucher, Earlene De Grads, Mishca George, Juliana Nero, Phernell Charles, Maria Abbott, Samantha Lynch, Rochelle John, Beverley Glasgow, Sherry-Ann John, Cordell Jack, Clea Hoyte, Jennifer Charles, Marsha Hooper, Sandra Samuel and Nichole Samuel.

Hooper and the Samuels are the new faces hoping to make the final cut.

Last year’s successful coach Roxell John, remains in that post. He will have as his under-study Cleton Burnette, with Genita Lewis as Manager.

The cost of this country’s participation in the July 16-31 tournament has been put at E.C.$42,000.
