FIFA officer wraps up visit to SVG

By today Friday June 17, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation will be closer to a home for football.

FIFA Development Officer Harold Taylor has been meeting with the National Sports Council officials over the last two days. A press conference at the Federation’s headquarters on Murray’s Road took place early in his visit. {{more}}

Taylor laid the groundwork for the venture, which is slated for completion with US$400,000 earmarked for Phase One.

He indicated that a home for football, or a Technical Centre was available, and outlined requirements for the venture.

He however indicated that the application for the money must be sent in “very soon.”

Federation President St. Clair Leacock said that the time had come for the Federation to have a field.

Talks over the two days were expected to complete arrangements for the project. If Leacock has his way, Victoria Park, with its central location to Windward, Leeward and suburban Kingstown, will be the choice. He looked at it as an “attractive alternative.” Leacock’s concern was whether government would lease Victoria Park to the Football Federation.

Phase Two of the Gold Project allocates a further US$400,000 for offices.

The Football Federation would have to accommodate the nation’s cultural festival, carnival. His preoccupation was if the facility could deal with the two activities side by side.
