Local volleyball is continuing on its recovery path. The latest resuscitative effort was made last month with the election of an executive to run the affairs of the association for the next two years.

Also elected was Eardley Martin as Vice-President, with Dominic Sutherland holding the post of Treasurer. Duane Daniel is the association’s secretary.

Marlon Williams was elected as the Public Relations Officer.

Nichole Ross and Dominic White are the committee members.

Determined to put the sport on a strong footing, the new executive will host a number of events in the next months.

Foremost on its itinerary is the re-establishment of the clubs. A lull in the sport for the past four years, has seen the disappearance of many of the top clubs.

As a fore -runner to the anticipated resurgence of these units ,the association has planned a monthly Four-A-Side competition.

The first was held last month and saw the participation of nine teams , seven males and two females .

Young hailed the competition as “ encouraging”.

The male division was won by Hill Men Inc, who defeated Kingstown Baptist Church Boys two sets to one Among the females Dickson crushed their Kingstown counterparts 2-0.

Spurred by this interest, the association plans to shift its caravan programme to coaching, utilising the fourteen FIVB trained coaches here.

A seminar for referees, linesmen and scorers, holds the attention of the association later this month.

These events form the spring for the re-introduction of a national club championship set to commence in August.

Remaining in the vein of chronology, the association ultimate aim is to re-enter regional tournaments.
