Windies save Best for last

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies cricket selectors have made two changes to the squad for the fourth Test match in the Digicel Home Series against South Africa to be played at the Antigua Recreation Ground, St. John’s, Antigua.

Narsingh Deonarine and Tino Best replace Ryan Hinds and Reon King. The match begins on 29 April.{{more}}

Convener of the selectors Michael “Joey” Carew said the selectors were disappointed in the performance of the team, particularly the batsmen, who except Brian Lara once again did not live up to expectations on a good batting wicket.

“Nevertheless we have another Test match to play and we hope to salvage something from this series as we look forward to the visit of the Pakistanis as well as the difficult tours to Sri Lanka and Australia later this year. Some people are advocating sweeping changes but that policy has never proven to be successful,” Carew said.

“What we are looking to do is to improve the fitness and conditioning, both mental and physical, of the players to ensure that they are able to contend with the demands of the modern game, he added.
