He disclosed there were “a lot of ups and downs,” but that “I have not peaked as yet.”

He acknowledged that 2004 was an outstanding one for him. He won the Reggae Marathon in Jamaica Saturday November 28, the Trinidad and Tobago Clico Marathon in January, and his ninth OECS Half Marathon December 12.

Those victories completed an impressive record which saw him take gold in the 15K Arouca Classic, September 24, and 10K in Mayaro Trinidad December 4, and Penniston here December 5.

Ballantyne was adjudged Male OECS Sports Personality at the Auberge Seraphine Conference Room St. Lucia early December 2004.

Ballantyne received his reward last Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field. OECS Sports Coordinator David Peterkin made the presentation at a ceremony with Education Sports and Youth Minister Mike Browne and his State Minister Clayton Burgin in attendance.

Ballantyne thanked the OECS for his recognition, especially in light of the fact that the local body responsible for athletics omitted him from its list of nominees for the National Lotteries Authority Annual Sports Award.

Grenadian swimmer Tuesday Watt with a string of excellent performances took the Female category. A Westmoreland secondary School student, watt won five gold medals at the 2004 Carifta Games and rattled up eight similar medals at the OECS Sports Meet.
