Ceaser’s century smoke out Rangers
A century is a worthwhile achievement in any form of cricket. Therefore, Keran Caesar had every reason to be proud when he blasted 117 last week Saturday playing for Smokey in the Vinlec North Leeward Senior Cricket competition against Rangers.{{more}}
Caesar, his teamâs opener, shared stands of 124 for the second wicket with Rohan Edwards who made 56; 65 for the opening partnership with Sheldon Hooper, 39, and a fourth wicket stand of 63. Smokey reached 344 for 9 from 37 overs. Peter Morris, 5 for 48 was the pick of the Rangersâ bowling. They however were bundled out for 64 off 15.4 overs.
Vivian Caesar, 3 for 9 and Elmore Alexander, 3 for 14 were the most successful bowlers for Smokey. The following day Sunday April 17 saw a closer encounter between Peto Stars and defending champions DâAffairs.
DâAffairs fell short by 28 runs. Peto Stars scored 272 off 34.4 overs. Tishaun Lavia 59 and Nicholas Williams 55 were the main contributors with the bat. Cameron Charles, 5 for 73 was the main wicket taker for DâAffairs.
The reigning champion made a gallant bid for victory with Fitzmore Edwards, 57 and Ian John, 30 leading the charge. But Dale Michael, himself from Petit Bordel where DâAffairs is based, helped wreck the batting with 4 for 54.
Eleven teams in two zones are battling for quarterfinal places. They are DâAffairs, Troumaca United, Smokey, Peto Stars and Rangers Zone 1 and Ajuba One, Ajuba Two, Enforcers, Somerset, Young Strugglers and Cool Veterans. Eight teams will advance to the quarterfinal when interest in the tournament is expected to begin peaking.
The action continues this weekend with Somerset in back to back encounters. They take on Young Strugglers on Saturday and Ajuba Two on Sunday. Somerset lost their only match against Enforcers while Young Strugglers are looking for their first win having lost to Cool Veterans and Enforcers.
Ajuba two lost to their village rival Ajuba One.
