Women called for training

With the 2005 cavaliers National Women’s Cricket Competition out of the way, attention is on selection of two squads: the Senior and Youth teams. They will be engaged in two title defences.

The first will be the West Indies Women’s Cricket Federation Tournament carded for July in Jamaica. {{more}}

The other will be the West Indies Under 23 Tournament in Barbados in August.

Forty women have been called for possible selection. J.G Tigress the League and Knock Out winner have 11 of their players called up. They are Jean Blucher, Myschia George, Celena Fraser, Sherryann John, Clea Hoyte, Rochelle John, Jennifer Charles, Phernel Charles, Nicole Sam, Akeisha Henson, and Kellorn Peters.

United Survivors who placed second in the League and were the losing Knock Out finalist copped seven places including Cordell Jack who recently returned from duties in South Africa with the West Indies party.

The others from United Survivors are: Samantha Lynch, Beverly Glasgow, Melissa Billingy, Maria Abbott, Rosetta Williams, and Maxine Richardson.

The North Leeward area have 10 persons in line for selection, equally divided between North Leeward with Yoland Granderson, Kayann Charles, Sandra Samuel, Darren Chance and Marsha Hooper, and Total Eye Care Rose Bank by Veran Edwards, Huretta Codougan, Earlene DeGrads, Shannel Lavia and Sharon Cato.

Garifuna Stars has four players including Juliana Nero who also returned from the South African sojourn along with Cordelia Williams, Ultian Thomas, and Terisha Lavia.

Rangers has Amanda Thorpe, Saviar Byron, Jasmine Browne and former captain Genielle Greaves in the squad. Despers has three representatives: Vanessa Shallow, Mayvern Joseph, and Nickisha Douglas.

The party is scheduled for a meeting at the Arnos Vale Playing Field tomorrow at noon.

Other activities surrounding Women’s Cricket highlight a St. Lucia Senior Tournament Invitation Game in St. Croix in September, and the Zonal Independence tournament fixed for October.

November 5 is the date for the awards and presentation Dinner and Dance, as well as the Annual General Meeting and elections.
