Tigress wins knock out round
J. G. Tigress proved their championship quality with the Knock Out version to the League title of the 2005 Cavaliers National Women Cricket tournament.
Tigress attained their victory, reaching 186 for 7 with seven balls to spare. {{more}}
United Survivors failed for the second time to stop a Tigress run chase.
Survivors scored 185 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs.
Celena Fraser, Tigressâ captain led in practical fashion with 58, but perhaps the innings that proved crucial was Clea Hoyteâs 31 not out. She shared an unbroken 22 run seventh wicket stand with Jennifer Charles three.
It was a team effort by Tigress as Fraser pointed out. She featured in a 70 run third wicket partnership with Nicole Samuel 14, which set the platform.
Samantha Lynch 3 for 31 and Melissa Bellingy 2 for 28 were among the wickets for United Survivors.
Captain Beverly Glasgow 76 and Maxine Richardson 31 shared a 55 run fifth wicket stand, which served to solidify the United Survivors innings. But the eventual total never seemed insurmountable, especially with memories of tigress
Rochelle John 2 for 38 and Sherriann John 2 for 47 were the wickets takers for Tigress.
Captain Glasgow was modest about her contribution. She conceded that her team gave away too many extras, 63.
Glasgow was not however doomed by the result. She cited the absence of Cordell Jack, doing duties with the West Indies World Cup squad in South Africa and Marcia Endeavour owing to maternal duties.
Glasgow is looking forward to defending their championship at Dorsetshire Hill in May.
In September, United Survivors also marks its tenth anniversary and that will be a focus of Glasgowâs attention.
With the competition out of the way, interest heightens on the teams for two defence titles. The Senior National squad is expected in Jamaica next July, while the Under 23 battle is also on the cards.
