Hooper misses double century
The surname Hooper has been synonymous with cricket at the international level. Everyone is familiar with Carl Hooper however enigmatic his performance might have been. However, Sheldon Hooper is carving out a reputation for himself in North Leeward. {{more}}From the village of Petit Bordel, Hooper, a wicketkeeper and opening batsman hit 199 last Sunday to gallop his team Peto Stars to an emphatic win. That was as the Vinlec North Leeward Senior Cricket tournament got going.
Hooper and Tishaun Lavia 60 put on 153 for the first wicket. Laviaâs dismissal seemed to have put Hooper in higher gear and he continued to blast the Coulls Hill Rangers bowling to all parts of the ground. He hit 24 fours and nine sixes in his knock which saw Peto Stars to 335 for 7 off 41 overs.
Ranjel Small 24 was the next best contributor with the bat.
Osmond Shallow 2 for 37 had the premium figures for Rangers.
They faltered in reply and mustered 181 in 31 overs with Lexroy Ballantyne 45, and Calvin Charles 37 in form.
Rohan Laborde 4 for 38 was the chief wicket taker for Peto Stars.
Eleven teams are vying for this yearâs championship. Ten will be trying to dethrone DâAffairs who are looking for the hattrick.
The teams are in two Zones. DâAffairs and Troumaca are scheduled for a showdown at Richmond on Sunday. The other match sees Somerset and Enforcers at Petit Bordel.
Smokey is the other team in Zone One. Cool Veterans, Young Strugglers, Ajuba One and Ajuba Two complete the other Zone.
The top four teams from each Zone progress to the quarterfinal on the way to the championship.
The final is set for June 26. Matches are of 50 over duration.
