Shallow moves up to premier
National cricketer, Hyron Shallow has answered the call, and has moved up to the Premier Division of the National Cricket Competition.
Shallow made the next step last weekend, when he turned out for Rivals, as the 2005 competition started.
Having dominated the first division for the past three years with both bat and ball, Shallow has carved out a name for himself on the local front. {{more}}
His success earned him a place on the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Senior team to the Windwards tournament last November. Shallowâs batting propelled him to a place in the Windwards team for this yearâs regional Carib Beer cricket series.
But his returns with the bat at the first class level in the three matches he played were a stark contrast with his dominance which he reveled in, at home, playing for Matthias United.
Shallowâs highest score was 16, which he scored against the Leewards. As expected he lost his place in the Windwards team.
It was opined in some quarters that Shallowâs failure was due to him not accustomed to playing at a higher level.
He was the subject of discussion, when the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association held its Annual General Meetin g February 4.Many felt then that Shallow with all his talent needed to make the upward mobility.
His immediate response in his debut match versus, Sunsail Packers, was to hit 46, and helped his new team declared at 307 for 7.
Also contributing to Rivalsâ total were St.Vincent and the Grenadinesâcaptain who made 86, and Orlando Simmons who chipped in with 36. Coliin Shoy with figures of 3 for 79, was Packersâ most successful bowler.
Packers undone by the bowling of Jackson, who raked in five wicket haul for fifty-seven runs,as they ended their innings at 163.
Former national Under-19 players Luke Browne and Renrick Williams made 59 and 29 respectively.
Following on Packers were 197 for 8,when the match was called off. Former Windwards medium pacer Mc Neil Morgan was unbeaten on 79,with Bill Edwards making 35.
